Dodgers clinch 8th straight division title, No. 1 seed in NL playoffs
The Los Angeles Dodgers' reign atop the National League West continues on.
L.A. clinched its eighth consecutive division title Tuesday thanks to a 7-2 win over the Oakland Athletics, and the San Diego Padres' loss to the Los Angeles Angels.
"Truth to be told, there were some guys that didn't even know we had a chance to clinch," manager Dave Roberts said, according to Jorge Castillo of the Los Angeles Times.
The Dodgers also clinched the No. 1 seed in the National League, giving them home-field advantage in the bubble through the NLCS.
L.A.'s current run of eight straight postseason appearances is the longest active streak in MLB and third-longest in history.
"You can't assume it every year," shortstop Corey Seager said, according to Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register. "We've been on a pretty special run."
If the playoffs started today, the Dodgers would host the eighth-seeded Milwaukee Brewers in a best-of-three first-round series.
