Report: Astros finalizing deal with Dusty Baker
The Houston Astros are working toward completing an agreement with Dusty Baker to name him their next manager, a source with knowledge of the negotiations told Kristie Rieken of The Associated Press.
While no contract has been signed yet, the team is hoping to finalize the hire on Wednesday, Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports. The sides are still negotiating small details, including a possible new coach on Baker's staff, according to Heyman.
Once hired, Baker will take over for AJ Hinch, who the Astros fired following a league investigation into illegal sign-stealing.
Baker last managed the Washington Nationals in 2017, authoring a 192-132 record over two seasons with the club. Since 2018, Baker has served as a special advisor to San Francisco Giants CEO Larry Baer.
The 70-year-old is a three-time National League Manager of the Year, and he won an NL pennant with the Giants in 2002.
In 22 seasons as a big-league skipper, Baker has won 1,863 combined games with the Giants, Nationals, Chicago Cubs, and Cincinnati Reds. However, he's never won a World Series
