Twins non-tender Cron after 25-HR season

The Minnesota Twins did not tender a contract to first baseman C.J. Cron, making the slugger a free agent, the team announced.

Cron, 29, mashed 25 homers in his first season with the Twins after being claimed off waivers from the Tampa Bay Rays in November 2018. Over 125 games, Cron hit .253/.311/.469 with 51 runs scored for the first-place Twins.

Cron was projected to earn $7.7 million in arbitration this year, according to MLB Trade Rumors.

It's now up for debate who will play first base for Minnesota next season. Miguel Sano could make the move across the diamond from third base, with the Twins reportedly interested in adding Josh Donaldson or Todd Frazier at the hot corner.

Minnesota also non-tendered reliever Trevor Hildenberger on Monday. Hildenberger pitched in 22 games in 2019, posting a 10.47 ERA and 2.27 WHIP. He also missed time with a concussion.

The remaining eight arbitration-eligible Twins were all tendered contracts. Infielder Ehire Adrianza avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year deal.
