Sanchez to start Game 3 after Scherzer pitches in relief
Washington Nationals right-hander Anibal Sanchez will start Game 3 of the National League Division Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Sunday instead of Max Scherzer, the team announced.
Scherzer was originally scheduled to start Sunday's contest but was used in relief during Game 2 on Friday.
The right-hander will be ready for Game 4, reports MASN's Dan Kolko.
Sanchez will make his ninth postseason appearance (eighth start) on Sunday when he takes the hill.
The veteran faced the Dodgers in Game 2 of last year's NLDS while pitching for the Atlanta Braves. He allowed three earned runs (two homers) across 4 2/3 innings.
Sanchez pitched well against Los Angeles earlier this season, however, as he retired 20 straight hitters during a seven-inning gem on July 26.
The Dodgers will counter with Hyun-Jin Ryu in Game 3.
