The New York Yankees have asked the Detriot Tigers about All-Star closer Shane Greene, a source told Jon Morosi of MLB Network.

New York is considering lengthening its bullpen as one option to address its starting-rotation concerns, Morosi notes.

Already boasting arguably the deepest, most talented group of relievers in baseball, the Yankees could become even more terrifying should they find a way to add the right-hander. New York's bullpen ranks No. 1 in the majors with a 5.6 WAR.

Reliever ERA K/9
Aroldis Chapman 2.66 12.7
Adam Ottavino 1.57 12.7
Zack Britton 2.51 7.5
Tommy Kahnle 2.74 13

Greene is putting together a career season. The 30-year-old entered Sunday' action with a 1.22 ERA, 0.86 WHIP, and 10 K/9 rate with the lowly Tigers.

The Oakland Athletics, Washington Nationals, and Los Angeles Dodgers have also reportedly expressed interest in Greene.

The Yankees' starting rotation is dealing with some issues: Left-hander CC Sabathia just landed on the IL and ace Luis Severino has yet to pitch this season due to multiple ailments. Meanwhile, the crosstown rival New York Mets acquired Marcus Stroman - one of the Bronx Bombers' rumored trade targets - from the Toronto Blue Jays in exchange for two pitching prospects Sunday.
