3-time MLB All-Star John Wetteland arrested on child sex abuse charge

Former Major League Baseball pitcher and three-time All-Star John Wetteland was arrested Monday on a child sex abuse charge, according to Sara Coello and Evan Grant of Dallas News.

He is accused of forcing a relative to perform a sex act on him on three occasions, beginning in 2004 when the child was 4 years old, according to an arrest affidavit.

Wetteland was released from custody Monday, the same day as his arrest, after posting a $25,000 bond.

The 52-year-old pitched 12 years in MLB, retiring after the 2000 season. He saved 330 games during his career and won a World Series in 1996 with the New York Yankees.

Following his retirement, Wetteland spent a portion of the 2006 season as a bullpen coach for the Washington Nationals before being fired in the middle of the campaign. He also served as a bullpen coach for the Seattle Mariners during the 2009 and 2010 seasons.
