Sabathia gets 5-game suspension for Rays incident, won't serve until 2019
New York Yankees left-hander CC Sabathia has received a five-game suspension and an undisclosed fine for intentionally throwing at Jesus Sucre of the Tampa Bay Rays, MLB announced in a release on Saturday.
Rays pitcher Andrew Kittredge also received a three-game suspension and an undisclosed fine for throwing a pitch near the head of Yankees catcher Austin Romine during the same game.
Both suspensions, if upheld, will be served at the beginning of the 2019 season, though Sabathia has decided to appeal.
The 38-year-old was ejected from Thursday's game after throwing at Sucre, and he left the field in heated fashion.

Sabathia was two innings away from activating a clause in his contract that would have paid him an additional $500,000.
