The Oakland Athletics have finalized a trade to acquire closer Jeurys Familia from the New York Mets in exchange for third baseman Will Toffey, reliever Bobby Wahl, and international bonus pool money.

Familia, 28, is set for free agency following the 2018 season. Over 40 2/3 innings this season, the right-hander owns a 2.88 ERA and 2.54 FIP while recording 17 saves.

The former Mets closer joins an Oakland bullpen, led by closer Blake Treinen, that ranks fifth in ERA and eight in FIP among American League clubs. Beyond Treinen, though, the A's relief corps lacks depth; Lou Trivino and Yusmeiro Petit have pitched more than 100 innings combined out of the pen.

Toffey was the No. 17 prospect in the A's farm system prior to the deal. The 23-year-old third baseman has posted a .244/.357/.384 slash line over 48 games with High-A Stockton this year.

Wahl, 26, is a right-handed reliever who made a brief appearance in the major leagues last year, throwing 7 2/3 innings with the A's. The 26-year-old boasts a 2.27 ERA and 2.52 FIP over 39 2/3 frames in Triple-A, with an impressive 42.8 percent strikeout rate.

The Mets also reportedly received $1 million in international bonus pool money, according to Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle.
