Phillies' Williams leaves game bleeding after fly ball bounces into his face

That's gotta hurt.

Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Nick Williams suffered an unfortunate and gruesome injury during Monday's game against the St. Louis Cardinals. In the eighth inning, Williams chased a Matt Carpenter fly ball all the way to the right-field wall, only to have the ball bounce off and ricochet into his face.

Williams was able to get the ball back into the infield and prevent a run from scoring on Carpenter's hit as he dealt with a bloody nose. After being examined by Phillies trainers in the outfield, however, he was forced to leave the game. Aaron Altherr replaced him in right.

There was no immediate update from the Phillies on Williams' condition, though the 24-year-old apparently told manager Gabe Kapler "I'm totally fine," according to John Clark of NBC Sports Philadelphia.

Williams is hitting .231/.301/.431 with eight homers and 21 RBIs over 176 plate appearances this season.
