Roberts not concerned about job security, believes Dodgers will win division

The Los Angeles Dodgers own the fourth-worst record in the National League and sit eight games under .500 heading into play Tuesday. They were just swept at home in a four-game series by the lowly Cincinnati Reds. The offense has struggled to score runs, and the pitching staff has had difficulty preventing them.

Still, manager Dave Roberts is showing no signs of panic and believes his Dodgers will sit atop the National League West for a sixth consecutive season when all is said and done.

"I understand that it's a long season. I look at the standings, and we're eight games back. Eight games back is not unattainable, by any stretch of the imagination, as we sit here in May," Roberts told Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times.

Roberts was the NL Manager of the Year in 2016 and led his team within one game of winning the World Series last season, but the Dodgers entered this year with championship aspirations and the slow start has led some to question if his job could be in jeopardy.

Dodgers president Andrew Friedman said Sunday that the blame should be placed on the front office and not the manager, and Roberts said he isn't losing sleep wondering about his job security.

"It's a job that I love and I'm passionate about, but all I can do is what I can do," he said. "What the organization chooses to do is not in my control. So, for me to even concern myself with that, for me, it would be just a waste of energy. I don't think about that. I really don't. It doesn't affect anything. Right now, all I can do is to try to get our guys to win a game, and play the right way."

In parts of three seasons in Los Angeles, Roberts is 211-153.

The Dodgers' offense should receive a boost Tuesday when both Justin Turner and Logan Forsythe return from the disabled list. Turner finished second on the team with 5.4 WAR last season.
