The Oakland Athletics are reportedly nearing a trade for New York Mets closer Jeurys Familia, according to Buster Olney of ESPN.

The trade is not yet official, as both teams are apparently working to iron out the final details of the transaction. However, Familia didn't pitch for the Mets on Friday due to the impending deal. The Mets said that a trade won't be announced until Saturday at the earliest, according to Mike Puma of the New York Post.

Once medical reviews are completed, the deal should sail through, sources told ESPN's Jerry Crasnick.

It's not known what New York would receive in return, though MLB.com's Jon Morosi reports that multiple prospects are being discussed.

"The most important thing for me is, I had a really good time here," Familia said on Friday, according to MLB.com's Anthony DiComo and Jane Lee. "It's tough, man. Just waiting right now on what's going to happen."

Should the trade be completed, Familia will join a powerful Oakland bullpen, where he could serve as a set-up man for All-Star closer Blake Treinen.

Familia has saved 17 games for the Mets this season and owns a 2.88 ERA, 1.23 WHIP, and 43 strikeouts in 40 games. He was an All-Star in 2016, the same season he racked up a major-league best 51 saves.

The 28-year-old is owed a little over $3 million for the balance of this season, and will become a free agent this winter.
