Triple - no, sextuple - your pleasure with the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks.

The RedHawks, who play in the independent American Association, left fans rubbing their eyes in disbelief after pulling off the rarest of feats in Thursday afternoon's home game against the Lincoln Saltdogs at Newman Outdoor Field. It started in the top of the first inning, when RedHawks starter Will Solomon loaded the bases, only to be bailed out by his defense when Josh Mazzolla, Brandon Tierney, and Trever Adams teamed up for an excellent 5-4-3 triple play.

But the RedHawks were far from done. Incredibly, it happened again just four innings later when, with runners on first and second, another Saltdogs batter grounded to Mazzolla at third base and kick-started Fargo-Moorhead's second 5-4-3 triple play of the contest. Once again it was turned by Mazzolla, Tierney, and Adams.

The RedHawks' feat of two triple plays in the same game is incredibly rare at any level of baseball. According to SABR's Triple Play Database, which chronicles every triple play ever recorded in MLB history, it's happened only once in a big-league game since 1876. On July 17, 1990, the Minnesota Twins turned two trifectas four innings apart against the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park. Fittingly, both Twins triple plays that night were also of the 5-4-3 variety.

The RedHawks' defensive heroics did not go to waste, as they beat Lincoln 3-2.
