Could you imagine Derek Jeter on any team other than the New York Yankees, especially if it was, somehow, the Colorado Rockies? Unfortunately for the Rockies, there was never a chance Jeter was going to fall to the 27th pick in the 1992 draft, where Colorado eventually selected pitcher John Burke.
Nevertheless, five teams had the chance to take him before the Yankees scooped him up sixth overall. One Colorado scout had some high praise for the future Yankees legend, and the projection that Jeter was a potential All-Star came true 14 times over.
Obviously, the Rockies weren't the only team with eyes on Jeter. Below, a Cubs scouting report describes him as "a super nice kid," and that his "teammates love him." This was, of course, long before he played with Alex Rodriguez.
