Watch: Reds' Storen throws rare immaculate inning
David Kohl / USA TODAY Sports
Everything was going right for the Cincinnati Reds on Tuesday.
Forty-year-old Bronson Arroyo secured his first win since 2014 and Drew Storen had his own faultless performance in the same contest, as the closer pitched an immaculate ninth inning - three strikeouts on nine pitches - to dispose of the Baltimore Orioles for good.
In total, only 75 different pitchers have ever thrown an immaculate inning, though Lefty Grove, Nolan Ryan, Randy Johnson, and Sandy Koufax did so multiple times, with Koufax the only pitcher to accomplish the rare feat on three separate occasions.
