Watch: Jones, Hosmer homer in 8th to stun Venezuela
Orlando Ramirez / USA TODAY Sports
The United States' offense finally showed up when it counted.
With the Americans trailing Venezuela 2-1 in the eighth inning, Adam Jones clubbed a solo homer off Hector Rondon to tie the game. Christian Yelich followed with a single before Nolan Arenado flied out for the first out of the frame. Eric Hosmer continued the comeback with a two-run homer to right center field to give the United States a 4-2 lead.
Rondon would then load the bases, forcing Venezuela to go to the bullpen to summon Bruce Rondon, who would get Ian Kinsler to strike out to end the inning.
United States reliever Luke Gregerson would come on in the ninth and induce a game-ending double play to preserve the 4-2 win.
