Watch: Cardinals' Fowler licks bat during plate appearance
MLB.com
Baseball players are known to have many bizarre superstitions. This one - whatever it is - may be the new all-time champion.
During his first at-bat in Monday's Grapefruit League game, St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Dexter Fowler apparently wasn't happy with his approach on a pitch - so he stepped out of the box and, for reasons unknown to everybody but himself, licked the barrel of his bat. Unfortunately for Fowler, his strange tactic didn't bring him any luck, as he grounded out a few pitches later.
Now that he knows licking the bat doesn't work, maybe Fowler's next step will be to take his bat to bed with him - a move that apparently worked wonders for Hall of Fame outfielder Richie Ashburn back in the day.
