Report: Rangers' pursuit of Quintana downplayed

Contrary to speculation that the Texas Rangers were back in on Jose Quintana, the club may not be strongly pursuing the talented Chicago White Sox southpaw, according to Evan Grant of the Dallas News, citing two sources.

The Rangers had interest in Quintana dating back to the trade deadline, but talks quickly broke off after the White Sox asked for Rougned Odor and Nomar Mazara, Grant notes. Instead, the Rangers were interested in parting with Jurickson Profar and Joey Gallo, two players with less perceived trade value.

Teams interested in Quintana include the Houston Astros, Pittsburgh Pirates, and New York Yankees. The reported asking price remains high as the White Sox look to continue their rebuild following the enormous returns they received in deals involving Chris Sale to Boston and Adam Eaton to Washington.

The Rangers, meanwhile, would enter the season with a rotation consisting of Cole Hamels, Yu Darvish, Martin Perez, Andrew Cashner, and Tyson Ross, who is rehabbing from thoracic outlet syndrome.
