David Ross to join ESPN as MLB analyst

'Grandpa Rossy' has a new gig.

Retired catcher David Ross, who ended his career with a World Series title as a member of the Chicago Cubs this past season, will join ESPN as an MLB analyst the company announced Monday.

"I'm excited to dive right in and start talking baseball with my new colleagues at ESPN," Ross said in a statement. "It truly is the worldwide leader in sports and I'm grateful for the opportunity to join this incredible team. We're going to have a lot of fun this season."

The popular backstop, who also helped guide the Boston Red Sox to a championship in 2013, will add the analyst gig to his new role with the Cubs of special assistant to baseball operations, which the organization hired him to fill in January.

Ross retired at the age of 39 after 15 seasons in the big leagues, where he caught close to 6,000 innings, and hit .229/.316/.423 with 106 home runs and 314 RBIs.
