Report: Athletics to re-sign Doubront to minor-league deal
After missing the entire 2016 season while recovering from Tommy John surgery, left-hander Felix Doubront is staying in Oakland.
The Athletics have agreed to a minor-league contract with the 29-year-old southpaw, reports Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle.
"I’m excited," Doubront told Slusser via text. "I felt comfortable with Oakland and they took care of me, so I want to repay them on their investment and help them in the big leagues. I know I can come back stronger and help them."
Doubront came to the Athletics from the Toronto Blue Jays in exchange for cash considerations in 2015. He's appeared in 11 games, eight starts, for them since then, posting a 5.81 ERA over 52 2/3 innings.
The six-year veteran has pitched for Oakland, Toronto, the Chicago Cubs, and Boston Red Sox. During his big-league career, he owns a 31-26 record with a 4.89 ERA through 118 appearances, 85 of which have been starts.
Slusser also reports the Athletics have agreed to sign catcher Matt McBride and right-hander Aaron Kurcz to minor-league deals as well.
