Report: Mets to exercise options on Bruce, Reyes
The New York Mets have informed outfielder Jay Bruce, and infielder Jose Reyes that they will return to the team next season, after having their 2017 options exercised by the club, reports ESPN's Adam Rubin.
Bruce's option is worth $13 million, while Reyes will be paid the major-league minimum.
The 29-year-old Bruce was acquired from the Cincinnati Reds at the Aug. 1 non-waiver trade deadline, and went on to hit .219/.294/.391 with eight home runs and 19 RBIs for the Mets after a nine-year run with the Reds.
Reyes, who was signed to a minor-league deal in June after his release from the Colorado Rockies, hit .267/.326/.443 with eight home runs, 24 RBIs, and 13 doubles in his return with the Mets, whom he previously spent nine years of his career.
In a related move, New York has declined the $10-million option of left-hander Jon Niese.
The 30-year-old appeared in just six games for New York, posting a 11.45 ERA, after coming back to the Mets in an August trade.
