Facing reliever Andrew Miller, Ortiz connected on a 2-1 slider into center field that nearly dropped for a hit. Outfielder Rajai Davis tracked Ortiz's shot well, though, coming up with a timely, backhanded grab on the run.
Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia scored on the play, trimming Cleveland's lead to two runs.
