Report: Royals fielding numerous trade calls for Davis

Kansas City's dominant closer could be on his way out.
The Royals are reportedly receiving "a lot of trade calls" for reliever Wade Davis, according to Jon Heyman of Today's Knuckleball, who adds that the team would be willing to part with its best bullpen arm "for the right price."
Davis' contract contains a $10-million team option for 2017, which the club is expected to exercise, according to Heyman, though with the Royals on the hook for a relatively staggering $144-million payroll, general manager Dayton Moore would likely look to deal away the 31-year-old to lighten the books.
Davis has been lights out since transitioning to Kansas City's first-choice closer in 2015. The two-time All-Star crafted a 0.94 ERA in 67 1/3 innings that season, helping the Royals secure their first World Series win in 30 years. He continued his effective performances in 2016, posting a 1.87 ERA and converting 27 out of 30 save opportunities.
