Angels' Calhoun to undergo surgery for core muscle injury

Los Angeles Angels outfielder Kole Calhoun will undergo surgery Tuesday to repair an injured bilateral core muscle, the team announced.

The surgery will take place in Philadelphia after which Calhoun is expected to begin regular offseason workouts.

His estimated recovery time is six-to-eight weeks. The club anticipates he will be ready for spring training.

The 28-year-old Calhoun swatted .271/.348/.438 with 18 home runs, 35 doubles, and 75 RBIs for the Angels, who finished the 2016 season at 74-88.
