Angels' Rendon out long term with partially torn hamstring

Los Angeles Angels third baseman Anthony Rendon is expected to miss an extended period of time as he recovers from a partially torn hamstring, according to The Athletic's Sam Blum.

"It's four years running now," Rendon said Friday, per Erica Weston of Bally Sports. "I was angry for a few days, frustrated, mad. Everything that you can possibly imagine because the game just keeps getting taken away from me, right? And then I want to win. I want to be out here. I don't know what else to do."

Rendon sustained the injury while running to first base in a game against the Cincinnati Reds on Sunday.

The 33-year-old has been hampered by injuries since joining the Angels on a seven-year, $245-million contract ahead of the 2020 campaign.

Rendon played in 52 of 60 games during the shortened 2020 season but has combined to make just 167 appearances since the start of the 2021 campaign.

Rendon hit .267 with three doubles and three RBIs across 19 games this season before sustaining the injury.
