Mets bolster bullpen by acquiring Salas from Angels
The New York Mets have acquired right-hander Fernando Salas from the Los Angeles Angels in exchange for minor-league right-hander Erik Manoah, the club announced Wednesday.
Salas took over as closer for the Angels after Cam Bedrosian went on the 15-day disabled list with a blood clot in his right arm, and has since converted four saves in four chances.
The 31-year-old Salas provides Mets skipper Terry Collins with a veteran right-hander out of the team's bullpen, which sits seventh in the NL in ERA.
Overall, Salas owns a 4.47 ERA and 1.26 WHIP to go along with six saves across 58 appearances this season.
The 20-year-old Manoah was drafted by the Mets in the 13th round of the entry draft in 2014. He was 5-5 with a 5.37 ERA across 13 appearances - 12 starts - in the minors.
In a corresponding move, the Mets transferred outfielder Justin Ruggiano to the 60-day disabled list. Manoah, meanwhile, has been assigned to the Angels' Single-A affiliate in Burlington.
