The Kansas City Royals lost their favorite mascot, but he won't soon be forgotten.
Dubbed the "Rally Mantis," the insect was believed to have brought the Royals good luck over the past week after being rescued from the trash in the team's dugout at Kauffman Stadium. The club went 4-1 at home with the mantis in attendance, but after taking it with them on the road, it fell ill and died Friday in the Minnesota Twins clubhouse, leaving the Royals inconsolable:
The Royals' Rally Mantis appears to have fallen ill. Genuine concern in the clubhouse. "He gone," Ed Volquez said. "We need another one."

At least he was well taken care of until his final moments:
#rallymantis had a safe flight! He also had a nice moth to eat. #showflight pic.twitter.com/vVnC2CRtHs
