Report: Rangers, Breslow agree to minors deal
The Texas Rangers, desperate for bullpen help, have reportedly agreed to terms with veteran left-hander Craig Breslow on a minor-league contract, according to Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News.
Breslow was pitching with the Triple-A New Orleans Zephyrs, affiliate of the Miami Marlins, prior to the Marlins releasing him on July 18. He posted a 6.46 ERA and 1.90 WHIP in 23 2/3 innings with the Zephyrs.
It's likely Breslow will serve as added depth in the minors for the Rangers, who've had to deal with an array of pitching injuries over the last month.
The 35-year-old opened 2016 on the Marlins' roster, where he owned a 4.50 ERA and 1.79 WHIP over 14 big-league games before being assigned to New Orleans. The 35-year-old owns a 3.35 career ERA in 11 big-league seasons, working primarily as a left-handed specialist.
