Encarnacion gets 1-game suspension for bumping ump
Toronto Blue Jays designated hitter Edwin Encarnacion has received a one-game ban from Major League Baseball for making contact with home plate umpire Vic Carapazza following his ejection from Friday's game, the league announced Sunday.
Encarnacion will appeal the ruling, so he'll be in the Blue Jays' lineup for Sunday's contest versus the Cleveland Indians.
The 33-year-old was ejected from Friday's 19-inning Canada Day thriller after arguing a called third strike in his first at-bat. Encarnacion slammed his bat to the ground following the pitch in question and had words for Carapazza, then got the boot while appearing to walk away. He then ran at Carapazza in a rage and appeared to accidentally bump into the umpire while pleading his case.

Manager John Gibbons was also tossed during the incident after taking over the argument from his slugger. Catcher Russell Martin was then ejected by Carapazza in the 16th inning after voicing his own displeasure with the strike zone.
Encarnacion, one of the Blue Jays' hottest bats of late, hit his 22nd home run of the season in Saturday's 9-6 win over Cleveland.
