Marte hobbles out of game with foot injury
The Pittsburgh Pirates outfield, which was supposed to be one of their biggest strengths this season, didn't look too hot on Tuesday when Starling Marte was escorted off the field by trainers with a foot injury with his club down 10-1 to the San Francisco Giants.
Marte came up limping and holding his leg after nearly colliding with the wall in center field while attempting to track down a fly ball off the bat of Ramiro Pena.
The 27-year-old was later diagnosed with left foot discomfort according to an announcement from the team.
With Marte out of the game and a struggling Andrew McCutchen pulled from the contest after three consecutive strikeouts, Pittsburgh was forced to use an outfield of Matt Joyce, Gregory Polanco and John Jaso.
It was the second time in less than a week Marte was forced to leave a game.
Marte also left a game June 15 after getting hit in the face by a bouncing ball while attempting to make a diving grab.
