At least one team already has eyes for Jose Reyes, and possibly to put him in a new position.

The Kansas City Royals have reportedly looked into acquiring Reyes, who was designated for assignment by the Colorado Rockies on Wednesday, according to Jerry Crasnick of ESPN.

The Royals would likely utilize Reyes at second base, a position where they have an immediate need. Omar Infante was designated for assignment by the team on Thursday, and the team is currently running with Christian Colon and rookie Whit Merrifield at the keystone sack. The Royals appear inclined to stick with the young duo - who are both performing well - for the time being, per MLB Network's Jon Heyman.

Reyes has played just 43 career games at second base, all of them coming in 2004 during his second big-league season with the New York Mets.

Colorado has nine days left to decide whether to trade, release, or outright Reyes to the minors. The 33-year-old, who was cut after completing a rehab assignment following his 52-game suspension for a domestic incident last October, is owed approximately $22 million next year.
