Oakland Athletics first baseman Mark Canha will miss the rest of the 2016 season after revealing Tuesday he will undergo surgery to repair a left hip impingement, according to John Hickey of the Bay Area News Group.
The 27-year-old was placed on the disabled list last week. After seeking additional opinions on the injury, he opted for surgery rather than a cortisone injection in his hip, according to Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle.
The Athletics have called up utility man Max Muncy in his place.
Canha finishes the year with a .122/.140/.341 slash line and three home runs.
