The Boston Red Sox activated right-hander Carson Smith from the 15-day disabled list on Tuesday.
Smith missed the first month of the season after suffering a strained flexor muscle in his forearm. He finished his two-appearance rehab stint with Double-A Portland with two strikeouts and no hits or walks over 1 2/3 scoreless innings.
In a corresponding move, the club optioned infielder Marco Hernandez to Triple-A.
In two major-league seasons with the Seattle Mariners in 2014-15, Smith compiled a 2.07 ERA over 78.1 innings, striking out 102 batters while surrendering 25 walks.
