The Arizona Diamondbacks announced Friday they've claimed left-hander Edwin Escobar off waivers from the Boston Red Sox.

Escobar, 24, was designated for assignment by the Red Sox on April 20, despite not giving up an earned run in three appearances with Triple-A Pawtucket.

The former top-100 prospect was acquired by the Red Sox from the San Francisco Giants as part of the Jake Peavy deal in 2014.

The southpaw owns a career 4.50 ERA in two big-league appearances.
