The Chicago Cubs have acquired left-handed pitcher Giovanni Soto from the Cleveland Indians for cash considerations, the team announced Monday.
Soto, who's not to be confused with the similarly-named catcher who plays for the Los Angeles Angels, was immediately optioned to Triple-A Iowa.
The 24-year-old appeared in six contests for the Indians last season, his first taste of big-league action, and did not allow a run over that span. He had been designated for assignment prior to Cleveland's season-opening game.
Kyle Schwarber was transferred to the 60-day disabled list to make room for Soto on the Cubs' 40-man roster.
