Atletico Madrid's Luciano Vietto out 3-4 weeks after appendix surgery
Atletico Madrid announced Thursday that 21-year-old forward Luciano Vietto underwent surgery for acute appendicitis, and the recovery is estimated to be about three to four weeks.
The surgery was performed at Monteprincipe Hospital in Madrid, where Vietto remains hospitalised and is feeling well.
"Everything went well and I hope to be with the team as soon as possible," he said.
Vietto, who joined Atleti from Villarreal in July and signed a six-year contract, tallied his first goal for the club in phenomenal style Sunday, scoring an 83rd-minute equaliser to help Diego Simeone's side earn a point away to Real Madrid in El Derbi Madrileno.
Two days later, on Tuesday, Vietto felt discomfort that prevented him from training and resulted in an abdominal computed tomography where the appendicitis was detected.
