Pepe did not feature for Portugal in either of their recent matches - against Serbia and Cape Verde, respectively - which seems to indicate he suffered the ailment in the club's recent Clasico loss.
Real Madrid did not disclose the severity of the injury or how long Pepe is expected to be out of action, noting only that his progress will continue to be monitored by club doctors.
