Theo Hernandez was diagnosed with a partial dislocation of his right shoulder by Real Madrid medical staff on Tuesday, likely ruling him out of Wednesday's La Liga visit from Real Betis.
Marcelo, for whom Hernandez acts as understudy following his summer switch from Atletico Madrid, suffered a similar issue in February 2016 and missed one match as a result.
Hernandez played out a compelling battle with Real Sociedad's Alvaro Odriozola in Sunday's 3-1 victory in the Basque country, before leaving the match through injury just before the final whistle.
Real Madrid follows the midweek Betis bout with a trip to CD Alaves on Saturday.
