Barcelona to appeal yellow card given to Messi for wasting time

Barcelona announced Monday the club will appeal a yellow card issued to Lionel Messi for time-wasting during Sunday's La Liga fixture against Sevilla.

Messi was clipped from behind by Steven N'Zonzi in the 83rd minute and lost his shoe as a result. After the Argentine plopped down onto the grass and started to tie his cleats, referee Santiago Jaime Latre showed him a yellow card for taking too long.

Messi didn't let the yellow card spoil his day, however, as he scored his 500th goal for Barcelona in a 2-1 win at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium.
