Report: Chelsea open to sending Lukaku back to Inter on loan
Chelsea are willing to discuss a deal that could result in Romelu Lukaku's sensational return to Inter Milan on loan, Sky Sport Italia's Matteo Barzaghi reports.
The 29-year-old moving back to Inter initially seemed impossible given he left the Italian club to re-join Chelsea only 10 months ago for around €115 million. However, Lukaku's strong desire to return to Milan and Chelsea's apparent openness to letting him leave temporarily have made the move a possibility.
It's far from a done deal, but negotiations can now begin between Inter and Chelsea.
Lukaku endured a difficult first season back at Chelsea following last summer's lucrative transfer, tallying a modest 13 goals over 42 club appearances. His growing unease led to rumors of him regretting leaving Inter. Still, the earliest legitimate reports of Inter trying to re-sign Lukaku appeared in late May when the Nerazzurri arranged a meeting with the player's lawyer, according to The Guardian's Fabrizio Romano and Jacob Steinberg.
The Belgian scored freely at Inter after joining them from Manchester United in 2019. He netted 47 goals and collected numerous individual awards over two Serie A campaigns, and his second season culminated with Inter winning their first Scudetto since 2010.
