Real Madrid says it still supports Karim Benzema after the French Football Federation suspended him indefinitely from the French national team.
"Real Madrid C. F. regrets but respects the decision taken today by the French Football Federation to provisionally suspend Karim Benzema from the France national team, and wishes to reiterate once more its support for and confidence in the player," the club wrote in a statement Thursday.
Benzema was banned from participating in the 2016 European Championship for his role in a case of blackmail involving teammate Mathieu Valbuena.
The French striker tweeted the following response to his suspension:
"I respect the decision and have confidence in our president Noel La Graet," it read.
