Police: Sala's body recovered from plane wreckage
Dorset Police confirmed Thursday that Emiliano Sala's body has been found in the wreckage of the plane carrying the Cardiff City striker and pilot David Ibbotson that disappeared the night of Jan. 21.
"The families of Mr Sala and the pilot David Ibbotson have been updated with this news and will continue to be supported by specially-trained family liaison officers. Our thoughts remain with them at this difficult time," the statement from Dorset Police reads.
"HM Coroner will continue to investigate the circumstances of this death supported by Dorset Police."
Sala, 28, was traveling to south Wales from Nantes in a single-engine Piper Malibu that went missing over the English Channel.
An initial search proved fruitless before a privately funded underwater search by Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) located the wreckage on Wednesday. The plane was found 24 miles north of Guernsey.
