UEFA orders 'further investigation' of PSG over Financial Fair Play

UEFA has reopened an investigation into French giant Paris Saint-Germain after initially clearing the club of Financial Fair Play (FFP) violations in June, reports BBC Sport.

The governing body initially said the decision to clear PSG would be reviewed, and its financial control body will now "refer the case back for further investigation."

FFP requires that clubs meet "break-even" rules, which mandate a balance between spending and revenue over a fiscal period.

In 2017, PSG more than doubled the record fee paid for a player when they lured Neymar to the Parc des Princes, splashing €222 million for the Brazilian and then another €180 million for Kylian Mbappe.

UEFA can sanction clubs that violate the rules. Expulsion from European competitions is the severest of penalties, while clubs can also be the subject of fines, transfer bans, and the suppression of prize money.
