McLaren withdraws from Aussie GP as team member tests positive for coronavirus

McLaren has withdrawn from the Australian Grand Prix after a team member tested positive for the coronavirus, Formula 1 announced Thursday.

"McLaren Racing has confirmed this evening in Melbourne that it has withdrawn from the 2020 Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix following the positive test of a team member for the coronavirus," read a statement from McLaren. "The team member was tested and self-isolated as soon as they started to show symptoms and will now be treated by local healthcare authorities."

The team added the decision was made not only for the safety of McLaren employees, but also to ensure the health and well-being of their Formula 1 competitors, fans, and stakeholders.
