Miami Heat and Team Canada center Kelly Olynyk will miss the FIBA World Cup after suffering a knee bruise during an exhibition game against Nigeria last week, the Heat announced on Wednesday.
An MRI confirmed Olynyk's injury, though he's expected to be ready for the start of the NBA season, which will be his third year in Miami.
Team Canada's roster has been depleted of late, as RJ Barrett, Jamal Murray, and Chris Boucher have bowed out of the competition for various reasons.
The team will rely on Cory Joseph and Khem Birch, its remaining NBA players, to make an impact when the tournament begins on Aug. 31.
