Anniversary of Munich air disaster triggers outpouring of tributes on Twitter
The football world paid tribute Saturday to those lost in one of the worst tragedies in sports history on the 58th anniversary of the Munich air disaster.
Various clubs throughout England honoured the 23 people who died as a result of the incident. Most of those killed were associated with Manchester United as the team attempted to fly home from a European Cup match in Belgrade in the former Yugoslavia.
Eight United players died. Manager Matt Busby was left in critical condition and was even read his last rites on two occasions before making a full recovery and returning to the touchline.
Stamford Bridge will hold a ceremony Sunday ahead of Manchester United's match against Chelsea to honour those affected by the crash.
