Yarmolenko: I'd pick Everton over taking selfies with Messi at Barcelona
Highly sought-after Dynamo Kiev striker Andriy Yarmolenko admitted he would snub Barcelona in favour of a move to Everton.
Although the Spanish giants have given no indication of being interested in the 26-year-old, Yarmolenko explains he would prefer a move to Goodison Park over the Camp Nou if it meant a regular place in the first team.
"Of course you can go to Barcelona, take a cool selfie with Lionel Messi, put the images on Instagram and get a million likes and be pleased with yourself," Yarmolenko admitted to Ukrainian media, with translation from Sky Sports.
"But I'm not one of those. It is better to play at Everton."
Yarmolenko was the subject of various reports during the January transfer window linking him with a move to Merseyside, but a deal with the Ukranian side never materialised.
Everton gaffer Roberto Martinez addressed Yarmolenko's comments during his meeting with reporters ahead of Saturday's match against Stoke City, saying he appreciated the comment despite the player's allegiance to another club.
"We all know Yarmolenko is one of the best footballers of his generation in his country. He's a captain and a leader and he has his own ambitions.
"That sort of comment from him is pleasing for everyone at Everton, but we don't talk about a player who is not registered with us."
