FA fines Chelsea, Arsenal for failing to control players
When Chelsea defeated a nine-man Arsenal at Stamford Bridge nearly three weeks ago, all hell broke loose just before the interval, when Diego Costa gouged and then swiped at Laurent Koscielny's face, before provoking Gabriel into a red card.
On Thursday, the Football Association (FA) cracked down on both clubs for the incident, issuing a pair of fines and a pair of warning as to future conduct.
From the FA's statement:
Following an Independent Regulatory Commission hearing, Chelsea and Arsenal have been fined £40,000 and £30,000 respectively and warned as to their future conduct after both clubs admitted a breach of FA Rule E20.
Costa, who somehow exited the pitch that day without having been called for a single foul, was given a retrospective three-match ban for violent conduct that was completed when Chelsea suffered a 3-1 defeat to Southampton on Saturday.

Gabriel, meanwhile, was handed a one-match ban and a £10,000 fine for admitted improper conduct, stemming from his behaviour after match official Mike Dean unveiled a red card. However, his initial three-match suspension for his part in the altercation was rescinded.
