VIDEOS: Monaco holds Spurs to a draw on late Stephan El Shaarawy score

English outfit Tottenham thought all three points had been captured as they took on AS Monaco in a Group J match up in the UEFA Europa League. But a late equalizer meant the two teams had to split the points instead.

Spurs midfielder Erik Lamela has often been criticized for a lack of production, but sought to prove his detractors wrong against AS Monaco on Thursday when he opened the scoring with a tap-in goal after smartly reading the offside line on an attacking break.

The Argentine made a run through the Monaco back line as Dele Alli attempted a shot on goal. The ball slipped through the opposition goalkeeper's fingers, and Lamela got on the end of it and shot at an open net, after timing his positioning just accurately enough to beat the offside trap.

Tottenham held that 1-0 lead for the majority of the game, but in the 80th minute Monaco delivered a sucker-punch courtesy of Stephan El Shaarawy.

The Italian international got a sweet header on a long cross from out wide on the right, restoring the draw between the two teams at 1-1.

That would be it for these two sides, as Spurs failed to hold the lead and were forced to split the points with Monaco.
