An introduction into Chelsea's newest signing, Papy Djilobodji

For all the marquee summer signings made by Europe's largest clubs, Chelsea's last-ditch effort to add centre-back depth led it to unheralded under-the-radar Senegalese defender Papy Djilobodji.

The 26-year-old Djilobodji joins the defending Premier League champions from Nantes, where he made 171 appearances for the club since joining it in 2010.

After a disastrous start to the season - compounded by the non-sale of highly coveted Everton defender John Stones - manager Jose Mourinho's hand was forced to add depth to a central defence position that features the aging John Terry and Gary Cahill and the inexperienced Kurt Zouma.

So who exactly is Papy Djilobodji?

For a reported fee of €3 million, Djilobodji is a steal if the Senegalese is anything short of a disaster.

The 15-time capped Senegalese international has played in 59 of Nantes' league matches over the last two seasons, impressing supporters at the Stade de la Beaujoire with his aerial acuity and brawn.

At an imposing 6-foot-4, the man commonly known as "Djilo" wins most aerial battles and has blistering pace for a player of that size. These assets should help with the physical demands of Premier League football.

It has long been Djilo's dream to play Champions League football, and as a member of Chelsea, he will now have that chance.

For Chelsea supporters who know next to nothing about their newest signing, your lot are getting a dependable and physically grandiose defender at a bargain price who has the right blend of talents to excel in the Premier League.

Blues supporters will fall in love with the man the moment he replicates a goal like the one below.
