Stoke City's seasoned midfielder Jonathan Walters staying put
Stoke City's salt-and-pepper journeyman winger Jonathan Walters is poised to stay at the Potters despite rumours that the Merseyside-born Irish international had handed in a transfer request.
In lieu of manager Mark Hughes' summer additions of attacking talents Xherdan Shaqiri, Ibrahim Afellay, Marco van Ginkel, and Moha El Ouriachi, Walters influence on the club has seemingly diminished, spurring reports that the 31-year-old expressed a desire to leave the club.
Walters was quick to quell any speculation on his future with a cheeky tweet aimed at Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal's transfer spending.
Walters joined the Stoke-on-Trent club in 2010 from Ipswich Town, and has since been a model of consistency, appearing in 176 of the club's 190 Premier League matches since his arrival, featuring in 93 percent of the club's top-flight matches.
